Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish BourbonMichter’s last year released a special double barreled bourbon, US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish, which was limited edition in scope. It was also apparently successful enough at retail that this whiskey brand is back with the 2015 version, said to be on allocation due to a lack of “adequate stocks to meet demand.”

Michter’s Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon, much like last year’s release, takes the baseline Michter’s bourbon and puts it into second barrel maturation. What’s said to be unique about these special custom barrels used to finish the whiskey is that they are assembled from 18-month air dried wood and then toasted but not charred.

What results from this is said to be an enhanced flavor profile and a representation of a self-described “remarkable achievement given that it is Kentucky Straight Bourbon with nothing extra added or done except placement in a second toasted barrel.”

Limited official tasting notes for this bourbon, which is bottled at 91.4 proof, are below. It should price at retail for around $53 per bottle, with it looking like there are bottles available for online retail purchase already which may be leftovers from last year.

Campfire and cinnamon, with pecan and candied fruit. Lingering finish of baked pears, vanilla, and marshmallow.
