Bardstown Bourbon Company recently debuted its latest release in the Discovery Series, whiskeys designed to highlight the art of blending.
A statement from Bardstown explains that by combining rare whiskeys from a wide range of places, this series will push boundaries by creating unique flavor profiles and styles.
They’re calling it Discovery Series #10, and it explores the depth of flavor from selected aged bourbons that bring unique profiles from Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee.
The blender’s notes for #10 show that on the nose, the bourbon offers aromas of toasted pecan, maple, and baked cherry. The palate features tastes of vanilla cream, hazelnut, and cocoa. Its balanced finish offers a lasting spice.
The bourbon’s blend is made up of:
- 62% 9-year-old Kentucky Bourbon
Vanilla, cinnamon and caramel with roasted peanut
- 18% 13-year Kentucky Bourbon
Candied cherry, ripe red fruit and baking spices
- 8% 6-year Kentucky Bourbon
Complex malt notes with youthful spice and smoke
- 10% 10-year Georgia Bourbon
Rich caramel, providing layers of flavor, earthiness and depth
- 2% 10-year Tennessee Bourbon
Orange peel, mixed nuts and caramel
“We’re excited to introduce a new look and feel on the packaging of Discovery #10,” said Dan Callaway, with Bardstown Bourbon Co. “Inside you’ll find a trailblazing blend, rooted in Kentucky that explores innovative flavor from unexpected sources.”
He described the blends of Discovery #10 as five distinct bourbons of different mash bills, ages and sources. It primarily consists of Kentucky-sourced bourbons ranging from six to 13 years in age, the blend is rounded out by two 10-year-old expressions from Tennessee and Georgia.
In January of this year, Bardstown Bourbon Co. released the Origins Series, a collection of three whiskeys distilled, aged, blended and bottled on-site at the Kentucky distillery.
“We know there is a lot of delicious bourbon to be discovered out there, and we love to explore the art of blending to create singular expressions that can’t be replicated,” Callaway said.
Discovery Series #10 clocks in at 114.24 proof, 57.12% ABV, and has a suggested retail price of $139.99. About 3,500 cases will be available through the Bardstown Bourbon Co. gift shop, at retailers in 24 states, and online at Seelbachs.com.
