Grand Teton Distillery Debuts An American Single Malt Whiskey In Idaho

Idaho’s Grand Teton Distillery recently introduced its Private Stock American Single Malt Whiskey.

In a statement from the whiskey maker, it’s noted that the spirit is aged in used bourbon barrels for seven years, which puts it in the tops of the longest-aged American single malts on the market.

This release marks Grand Teton’s third bottle in the Private Stock collection, and it’s now available direct to the consumer.

“This is our distillery’s second American single malt, and this version truly showcases our craft,” said John Boczar, head distiller at Grand Teton Distillery. “We wanted to create a pure expression of a single malt and this bottle does just that. Not only has it be aged three years longer than our first, it has 10 percent more alcohol and has a distinctly unique finish.”

The distiller noted that this whiskey is dark golden in color and features aromas of sourdough, candied ginger, chamomile, sprouts, mint and cinnamon. It’s overall herbaceous, and has a unique chocolate babka finish.

This whiskey was aged in 53-gallon barrels at 6,000 feet of elevation, in extreme temperatures at the foothills of the Teton mountain range.

The whiskey maker notes that this is a true grain-to-glass whiskey, with the single-grain malted barley milled, fermented, distilled, aged and bottled in-house.

In fact, Grand Teton Distillery’s American Single Malt Whiskey features 100% Idaho malted barley, clocks in at 50% ABV, and has a suggested retail price of $79.95 per 750ml bottle.

Boczar explained that Grand Teton’s Private Stock collection features limited-release, small batch barrels that have been individually selected, proofed with pure mountain water and hand-bottled. They’ve released these bottles annually since 2021.

The Private Stock is sold in an embossed gift box, with bottles from 22 initial barrels now available for purchase online. Soon, the whiskey will be available at the distillery’s tasting room, as well as at select retailers throughout the West.
