Breckenridge Distillery, Brewery Collaborate Again On Whiskey, Beer ‘Buddy Pass’

Breckenridge Distillery and Breckenridge Brewery are bringing the ‘Buddy Pass’ back for a second season.

From this unique barrel-exchange program comes a limited-edition Imperial Stout Cask Finish Whiskey and a Whiskey Barrel-Aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout Beer.

Last year’s inaugural limited release sold out in Colorado, so this year’s Buddy Pass has expanded nationwide, entering 10 new markets.

The Buddy Pass collaboration starts with Breckenridge Brewery’s Imperial Oatmeal Stout beer, which is aged in Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon barrels. After the beer is aged, the barrels are returned to Breckenridge Distillery where they are filled once again with the distillery’s whiskey and aged again for another year.

The distiller’s notes show that Breckenridge’s Imperial Stout Cask Finish Whiskey picks up highlights from the Imperial Oatmeal Stout, which lends to the 114.7-proof expression’s aromas of cinnamon and oak, and a background of orange zest and chocolate.

On the palate is caramel and dark chocolate with a dry, matured oak and cinnamon spice leading into a long, dry, spicy finish. It has a suggested retail price of about $50.

The beer, Breckenridge Brewery’s barrel-aged Imperial Oatmeal Stout, imparts notes of dark chocolate-covered cherries, espresso, and toffee. Its time in the Breckenridge Distillery’s high-rye bourbon barrels also brings hints of caramel sweetness.

Buddy Pass 2022 will be available in Colorado, Chicago, Southern California, Texas (Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio), New York City, South Florida, Upstate New York, Arizona, New Jersey, Atlanta, and the greater Washington D.C./Maryland/Delaware area.

Founded in 2008, Breckenridge Distillery is the “World’s Highest Distillery” known for its blended bourbon whiskey, a high-rye mash American-style whiskey.
