Bear Fight Whiskey Launches New Spirit In American Single Malt Category

As the whiskey category of American Single Malt takes hold, the team at Next Century Spirits are looking to join the designation with a spirit of their own.

Enter Bear Fight American Single Malt Whiskey, which just launched online and in a few select states with a broader rollout coming this fall.

Anthony Moniello, with Next Century Spirits, said they looked across the business landscape that included tariff wars, supply chain challenges and consistent price hikes, and realized there was an opportunity to provide a product at an approachable price, within the American Single Malt, and even the broader Single Malt, category.

In a statement from the distiller, Moniello said that after recognizing that the American Single Malt category is under-developed, NCS saw an opportunity to create a product that would take old world tradition and merge it with new world attributes.

“The final flavor profile decision was made in order to create the most approachable, daily drinker American Single Malt in the world,” said Master Blender Nick Scarff, who garnered more than 130 medals in international tasting competitions for products he’s developed.

“The inspiration for this product came from a combination of a lifelong love affair with Scotch combined with the desire to prove that America could also produce top quality single malt whiskies,” he added.

Moniello noted that the Bear Fight brand has been awarded gold medals across multiple international spirit competitions including: Double Gold at the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco, Best in Category at the World Whiskies Awards (the only American Single Malt under $150) and Double Gold at the New York International Spirits Competition (the only American Single Malt under $75).

Bear Fight American Single Malt is aged in first-fill bourbon barrels and finished in peated-smoked oak and sherry casks. It clocks in at 45% ABV, 90 proof.

The distiller’s notes show that on the nose, there are aromas of toasted pecan, ripe red apples, and honeysuckle. The palate tastes of dried figs, black currants, wildflower honey, and candied dates. It has a cream sherry type finish, with medium toasted American oak, and a hint of Islay style peat smoke.

Bear Fight is available at retail in select markets for $39.99.
