About:

This is the 1st edition blended malt whisky release from Slanj, with the name inspired by the traditional Scottish Gaelic toast, Slàinte. The Slanj blend is crafted from 70 per cent of a Speyside single malt matured in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez ex-sherry casks, and 30 per cent of a Highland single malt matured in ex-bourbon casks. Bottled at 46% ABV, and without chill filtration.
Appearance:
Bright Gold
Nose:
Aromas of rich fruitcake filled with raisins and sultanas open, accompanied by notes of walnut and festive spices. There is also a clear note of a slightly malty buttery toast, before a touch of leather.
Palate:
A gentle and creamy mouthfeel opens with sweet sherry, dates and dried fruits. There are notes of chocolate and toffee, giving way to cinnamon spice.
Finish:
A warming medium length finish, with a flash of sherried fruits before escalating spices including cinnamon, ginger, pepper and oak.
Comments:
Slanj is a pleasant blended malt whisky which balances sweetness and spice. Slanj have not revealed which two distilleries provide the blend’s component malts, but the influence of the Speyside malt’s sherry cask maturation clearly leads with discernible sherry and dried fruit notes. There are also some enjoyable flashes of cinnamon and ginger spice. Overall, Slanj is a gentle and accessible blended malt available at a reasonable price point, which could be enjoyed as a daily sipper or a more premium cocktail base.
