Tasting Notes

About:

A combination of multiple distilleries from across the Highlands of Scotland. Now that’s a large area, so what’s in this is up for anyone’s guess. However, as stated on the House of Hazelwood’s website, this bottle really is greater than the sum of its parts.
Appearance:
Old Sherry
Nose:
Huge spoons of brown sugar, baked apples, cinnamon sugar, freshly fried donuts, old polished oak that reminds me of my grandad’s little workshop in his garden. A Cognac blending room, caramel sauce, steamed toffee puddings, shaved wood, toasted sugar,
Palate:
A wonderfully sweet start with more brown sugar and sweet red fruits: raspberry and strawberry. Coca-Cola, lemongrass, massive texture, super chewy, cherries in syrup, lemon rind, salted peanuts.
Finish:
A combination of sweet and well balanced bitter notes. The brown sugars/toffee and caramel remain, but you’ve also go these blooming notes of soft heat and spiciness. It’s like red vermouth with a little red chilli kick! Very tasty. Some notes of cumin and turmeric, along with angelica root, ginger, more lemon and bright citrus towards the end.
Comments:
This is quite excellent, I have to say. Quite a stunning example of a really old blended malt, sourced from the highlands, with lots of tiny, fragrant, potent and interesting notes running around the entire thing.
