Tasting Notes

About:

A single malt from the Highland’s Glengoyne distillery, this single cask release was exclusively selected by UK retailer The Whisky Shop. Distilled on 29th March 2010, the whisky was matured in a first-fill European Oak Sherry Hogshead; Cask #1007. Bottled in 2026 with natural colour and without chill filtration, this single cask produced only 301 bottles, bottled at 58.9% ABV.
Appearance:
Bright Mahogany
Nose:
Rich deep sherry aromas open on the nose, accompanied by dried fruits and sweet marzipan. There are also notes of leather, polished mahogany and a touch of toffee.
Palate:
Rich and mouthcoating thick sherry open on the palate, with notes of dried fruits including raisins and sultanas, alongside Christmas spices. Notes of well-seasoned sherry oak wood follow, with golden syrup, leather and furniture polish.
Finish:
A long finish, dominated by drying Oloroso sherry, with dried fruits leading flashes of clove and pepper spice.
Comments:
An exclusive release from UK retailer The Whisky Shop, this single cask Glengoyne release is a sherry-bomb with plenty of clear dried fruits and Christmas spice notes imparted by that first-fill sherry cask influence. One of the best Glengoyne expressions I think I’ve sampled, this is a great cask selection by The Whisky Shop for anyone seeking a well-sherried special whisky. I got my Dad a bottle for his 70th birthday, and it’s been very well received – and is almost empty!

Editor’s Note: This whiskey was either bought as a sample by The Whiskey Wash or provided to us as a review sample by the party behind it. Per our editorial policies, this in no way influenced the outcome of this review.
