Tasting Notes

About:

A limited-edition 7-Year-Old single malt from the Glen Scotia, the distillery’s release for the Campbeltown Malts Festival 2026. This medium peated whisky was initially matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, then finished in first-fill Ruby Port casks for 6 months. After 7 years of maturation the expression was bottled at 53.9% ABV, non-chill filtered and at natural colour.
Appearance:
Rose
Nose:
Maritime aromas open with sea salt and sweet peat, shifting to vanilla fudge and creamy raspberry sweetness reminiscent of raspberry blancmange dessert. There are notes of red fruits, stewed cherries accompanied by strawberries and plums. There is background ashy smoke throughout.
Palate:
Sweetness opens on the palate with fudge and thick jammy red fruits, which gives way to grilled orange citrus and a touch of sour blackcurrant. There is a surge of savoury thyme herbs, before clove, pepper, and oak spice develop, with layers of ashy smoke embers.
Finish:
Those thick jammy fruits briefly reappear, quickly fading into savoury notes of coastal salinity, clove, thyme, and cinnamon for a warming finish with lingering peat smoke.
Comments:
Glen Scotia’s Campbeltown Malts Festival 2026 release is a bright and vibrant cask strength bottling, combining the characteristic smoky maritime Campbeltown style with sweet and jammy red fruits. The influence of those first-fill Ruby Port casks is clear through those thick indulgent red fruit jam notes, including strawberries, raspberries, plums and cherries.

I first sampled the Glen Scotia Festival 2026 bottling on a recent tasting event, where it was a standout for many attending, and one of the most frequently purchased whiskies at the end of the evening. At the price point this is an interesting limited-edition Glen Scotia, which is likely to be one of the most popular festival releases for 2026.
