Tasting Notes

About:

An ongoing release in The Glasgow Distilleries showcasing their ageing stocks. This is a combination of peated and unpeated malt from the distillery, carefully matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks for a maximum showcase of flavour.
Appearance:
Light Gold
Nose:
Smoked vanilla ice cream with sea salt and olive oil. The smoke is ashy, reminiscent of the distant island that lays off in the fog of the west coast of Scotland. The welcome sweetness happily contrasts that smoke as we’re showcased with baked vanilla, caramel and honeycomb.
Palate:
Initially salty and spicy, the ABV makes itself known straight away. This then dies off as we start to get some of that sweetness coming through – however, something very present is cooking herbs. They’re both very fragrant and slightly bitter, think about sage, rosemary and a good pinch of salt and pepper.
Finish:
Long, potent, and very suited for the freezing cold weather that is trying to enter my house. It has a weight to it when it comes to the smoke. It sits and moves around your palate and shadows over the other sweet and salty flavours dispersed over your tongue.
Comments:
This, like many other releases from The Glasgow 1770 Distillery is delicious. Loads of character and charm to it that many other older whiskies of a similar style seem to lack. I don’t think this distillery has ever put a foot wrong, certainly not with this.
