About:

Batch 2 of the Glasgow Distillery’s Bourbon Cask Matured is an eight-year-old single malt made by combining equal proportions of its unpeated and peated double-distilled whisky styles, matured for eight years in first-fill ex-bourbon casks.

Released at batch strength of 54% ABV and fully naturally presented with no chill filtering or added colours.
Appearance:
A light yellow gold colour with a super creamy viscosity as you swirl it around the glass.
Nose:
A sweet, welcoming nose with buttery warm apple strudel, ginger nut biscuits and a melted Bounty bar providing coconut and chocolate. The smoke is very soft on the nose and is more aligned to freshly baked goods then anything medical or ashy.
Palate:
The first sip manages to be both silky and oily in texture providing a burst of tropical fruits which envelope the mouth straight away. The abv is prevalent but still highly accessible without over dominating any of the vibrant notes on the palate. Each sip provides more flavours, such as Millionaire Shortbread, musty orange marmalade and sweet coconut. The smoke feels more subtle on the palate than the nose but is still noticeable wafting between the rich flavours,
Finish:
A very long, oily finish which spans initially from creamy vanilla ice cream to sweet and salty grilled pineapples.
Comments:
From previously enjoying an unpeated 8 year old ex Bourbon release in partnership with the Whisky Youtuber Aqvavitae, I had very high expectations from going in with that bottle being one of my favourite releases from Glasgow to date. I wrongly assumed that it would be very similar, however from doing a side by side the variation between them become much more prominent. This new slightly peated version comes to life with an slightly lighter depth but with much rounder and balanced flavours with that slight smoke tying it all together. Almost dangerously approachable with the higher abv, this is a whisky that requires more than one glass. This could be my new favourite release from a distillery which has set the bar very high already.
