Tasting Notes

About:

A limited annual release of 13,218 bottles, Compass Box Hedonism is a blended grain Scotch whisky paying homage to the tradition of grain whisky distillation.

The 2026 edition features Scottish actress Karen Gillan, known for her roles in Jumanji, Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Who, as the muse on the label. She is depicted through living image artwork created by Australian artist Emma Hack.

This year’s release is stated to be the oldest Hedonism expression to date and introduces a more pronounced sherry led component to the blend.
Appearance:
A wonder natural light golden straw hue.
Nose:
A very sweet, light and bright nose with a wonderful floral edge to it. Vanilla custard, cold out of the tin with powdered jelly babies mixed in. There is a slightly musty fruit aroma like a opening the doors of a warm orangery.
Palate:
A wonderful smooth silky texture carrying bags of creamy toffees, vanilla ice cream and wonderful warm cooking spices. Freshy baked custard tarts, with a sweet blackcurrant jam follow up.
Finish:
A medium to long, dry and sweet finish providing a lingering white chocolate chalky texture and subtle oak tannins.
Comments:
I have been fortunate to have tried a few older grain expressions over my whisky journey but this blend certainly has a luxurious creamy element which helps it stand out from the pack.

With all Compass Box releases, the label artwork through to the tale of the bottle is a brilliant pairing of drams and design which matches the liquid beautifully.

A release like this shows why well aged and matured grain is worth seeking out.
