About:

Bardstown Bourbon Company Discovery Series #13 is a groundbreaking addition to the acclaimed Discovery Series, marking the first-ever release to undergo double barreling. A blend of four Kentucky straight bourbons ranging from 8 to 15 years old, the whiskey is first matured in new American oak before spending additional time in Hungarian oak barrels, adding complexity while staying fully Kentucky. Bottled at 110.8 proof, it showcases Bardstown’s ever-developing mastery of blending and wood management. Blend Composition:
45% 9-Year Bourbon
22% 9-Year Bourbon
20% 15-Year Bourbon
13% 8-Year Bourbon
Appearance:
Red brown, liquid brick
Nose:
Sugared pecan, fresh carrots, eucalyptus, cherry pie.
Palate:
Opens with molasses mixed with red hots; highlights of stinging oak, chocolate, and cherry cordials. Sweet Pipe tobacco and the greens of the cedar tree. No overwhelming tannins, just oak spice and maybe, somewhere, a hint of smoke.
Finish:
Medium long, gets sweeter as it goes on. Super corny flavor as the burn of the proof recedes.
Comments:
A stunning product, trying for the home run. Doesn’t make it, only because it seems like there are too many competing flavors to hit a truly memorable balance that I would expect from the mash bill.
