Tasting Notes

About:

A 10-Year-Old single malt from the Lowland’s Glasgow distillery, bottled by independent bottler Adelphi who are renowned for their single cask releases, with the company accepting just 4% of the casks it is offered. Distilled in 2016, the Glasgow distillery’s unpeated style was matured in a virgin oak hogshead cask #845 for 10-years before bottling in 2026. Only 258 bottles were produced, presented with natural colour and non-chill filtered, bottled at 58.1% ABV.
Appearance:
Bright Amber
Nose:
Sweet aromas of caramel, complemented by floral vanilla and toasted coconut. There are also notes of rich fresh oak, cinnamon spice and light malt.
Palate:
The sweetness continues on the palate opening with toffee and vanilla fudge, accompanied by a touch of baked apple and toasted coconut returns. At the mid-palate malty notes develop, shifting to cinnamon, brandy snaps, and peppery oak.
Finish:
A warming and slightly drying finish, begins with creamy and rich caramel and chocolate, before shifting to toasted oak alongside cinnamon and baking spices.
Comments:
This Adelphi Selection Glasgow 10-Year-Old displays clear notes of caramel sweetness, toasted coconut and oak spice. At times this whisky does feel like a cask driven experience with the very active virgin oak cask imparting lots of caramel, vanilla and toasted oak notes, but this isn’t a bad thing as the virgin oak has interacted well with Glasgow’s spirit resulting in a bold, engaging and very drinkable cask strength whisky. I’d be interested to see how Glasgow’s peated style interacts with the virgin oak – hopefully a future release!
