WhistlePig Whiskey is celebrating International Whiskey Day on March 27 by spotlighting its flagship Small Batch Rye Aged 10 Years in a pair of cocktail serves. The Vermont-based rye producer is positioning the recipes to appeal to both seasoned rye drinkers and newcomers to the category.
The brand has shared two cocktail recipes built around its 10-year-old rye expression: a Black Manhattan and a Rye Espresso Martini.
The Black Manhattan calls for 2 oz of WhistlePig Small Batch Rye Aged 10 Years, 1 oz of amaro, two dashes of Angostura bitters, and Luxardo cherries for garnish. All ingredients are stirred in a mixing glass until dilution, then strained into a coupe glass.

READ THE STORYThe Rye Espresso Martini combines 2 oz of WhistlePig Small Batch Rye Aged 10 Years with 3 oz of espresso, 0.25 oz of coffee liqueur, and 0.5 oz of WhistlePig Barrel Aged Maple Syrup. The serve is shaken hard, double-strained into a chilled martini glass, and garnished with three coffee beans.
WhistlePig has been a central figure in what the brand calls the “Rye Revolution” since it first released its flagship 10 Year expression in 2010. The company credits cocktail culture and craft distilling as key drivers behind the category’s growth.
U.S. rye whiskey volumes have increased more than 1,200% since 2009, according to the brand. That surge has been fueled in large part by bartenders and whiskey enthusiasts rediscovering rye’s distinctive flavor profile and its versatility in classic and contemporary cocktails.
WhistlePig was founded in 2007 on a farm in Shoreham, Vermont. The brand has since expanded its portfolio to include a range of aged rye whiskeys and specialty products, including its Barrel Aged Maple Syrup featured in the espresso martini recipe.
The rye category’s momentum shows no signs of slowing. According to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS), American rye whiskey has been one of the fastest-growing segments within the broader U.S. spirits market over the past decade, with supplier revenues climbing significantly year over year.
International Whiskey Day, observed annually on March 27, celebrates whiskey of all styles from producing regions around the world.
