Wheel Horse Whiskey has debuted a new Rum-Finished Double Mash Whiskey, marking one of the brand’s most experimental limited-edition releases to date. The launch arrives alongside the annual return of the distillery’s Double Oak Bourbon, a seasonal expression that previously earned a 94-point rating from Wine Enthusiast.

The Rum-Finished Double Mash blends carefully selected Bourbon and Rye barrels to create a layered flavor profile. The whiskey is aged for a minimum of five years and bottled at 101 proof.

It undergoes an extended finishing process of up to two years in three different styles of rum casks. The production run is limited to just 2,000 bottles, with a suggested retail price of $40.

Official tasting notes from the brand describe the whiskey as showcasing “the bold caramel and vanilla character of Bourbon intertwined with the peppery spice of Rye, elevated by rum cask finishing that introduces notes of brown sugar, tropical fruit, baking spice and molasses.” The mash bills used are a 70/21/9 Bourbon and a 95/5 Rye.

The returning Double Oak Bourbon is also aged five years and bottled at 101 proof. The expression begins with barrels aged over four years in new American oak before being re-casked for up to eight additional months in custom-crafted finishing barrels from ZAK Cooperage in Kentucky.

Those secondary barrels feature 18-to-24-month open-air seasoned oak and custom char profiles. According to the brand, this process enhances the whiskey with “amplified layers of toasted oak, caramelized sugar, vanilla, dark chocolate and baking spice.”

The Spring 2026 Double Oak release is limited to 2,500 bottles and also carries a $40 suggested retail price.

Both expressions are available online at wheelhorsewhiskey.com and at Wheel Horse retailers across approximately 15 states nationwide.

Wheel Horse Whiskey has built a reputation for small-batch, high-proof releases that experiment with finishing techniques. The brand’s portfolio emphasizes five-year-aged, 101-proof expressions, a consistent signature across its core and limited-edition lineup.
