Tomatin Unveils Bold New Packaging Showcasing Wood Expertise

Single malt scotch whisky distillery Tomatin has launched a comprehensive packaging refresh across its core range, placing its wood management credentials at the center of a striking new visual identity. The redesign is rolling out globally, starting with Tomatin Legacy and Tomatin 12 Year Old Triple Cask, with remaining expressions to follow in the months ahead.

The updated packaging features a striking box adorned with a golden foil wood-grain motif symbolizing the natural tree rings found in oak. Each expression is distinguished by a vibrant colorway, spanning dark indigo, forest green, scarlet red, rich purple, and teal blue.

Jennifer Masson, head of marketing at Tomatin, said: “This bold new packaging reflects what we do best at Tomatin — exceptional cask management, craftsmanship and attention to detail. It aligns our visual identity with consumer expectations in modern retail and on-trade settings and gives our whiskies greater presence in global markets.”

Messaging across the range has been streamlined with clearer product names further clarified by the distinctive colorways and simplified information.

As part of the update The Tomatin 12 Year Old has been renamed Tomatin 12 Year Old Triple Cask with a rich green colour featured on the label and box. This more clearly distinguishes it from the 12 Year Old Sherry Cask which will also receive the enhanced label treatment in deep red.

Global travel retail expressions, including Tomatin 8 Year Old and Tomatin 13 Year Old, will transition to the updated packaging throughout 2026.

The refresh follows cooper Allan Bartlett being awarded Cooper of the Year at the 2025 Icons of Whisky Awards. Tomatin is one of only a handful of scotch whisky distilleries to operate its own on-site cooperage and this dedication to wood is part of teh inspiration for the new packaging.

Masson added: “Our focus remains unchanged — creating remarkable single malts at excellent value for whisky lovers around the world.”

The redesign represents a strategic step in Tomatin’s long-term plan to strengthen its positioning in global markets. It follows the 2025 release of Tomatin Double Cask and Tomatin 10 Year Old, both designed to stand out in grocery and convenience retail channels and now listed in UK supermarkets Tesco and Waitrose respectively.

Tomatin, located 16 miles south of Inverness, has a heritage stretching back to 1897 when the first formal distillery was established. The distillery, owned by Japanese company Takara Shuzo International, was named Scotch Whisky Producer of the Year and Outstanding Spirits Producer of the Year at the 2022 International Wine & Spirit Competition. Its 18 Year Old secured Platinum status at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2024 after earning Double Gold for the third consecutive year.
