READ THE STORYThe release is a departure from the distillery’s more common use of sherry, port, or wine casks for single cask expressions. Tomatin stated the ex-bourbon maturation was chosen to emphasize the tropical fruit notes characteristic of its spirit.
“As a bourbon barrel-only release, this expression presents whisky lovers with an opportunity to enjoy a single malt that is truly unique, and a style not found elsewhere in our core range,” said Scott Adamson, blender and global brand ambassador at Tomatin.
Adamson added that the whisky “shines a spotlight on the tropical notes that develop in Tomatin over time.”
The launch is designed to support the brand’s long-standing relationships with independent merchants.
“The release of this extraordinary expression for specialist whisky retailers allows them to share a distinctive limited Tomatin whisky which is markedly different with their customers,” said Gordon Hynd, UK sales director at Tomatin.
Hynd continued: “It’s only in these places you can find special gems like this Tomatin 2005 single cask and we’re pleased to continue our long-standing relationships through this limited release.”
According to official notes from the brand, the whisky has aromas of green apples, lemon zest, Victoria sponge, and white chocolate.
The palate is described as having tropical fruit, malt, brown sugar, and light spice notes and the finish is long and warming.
