The Glenlivet has launched its 12 Year Old Provence Edition, a limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky finished in three French wine cask types. The release is the latest in the distillery’s Beyond Speyside series and is available in select markets globally at a recommended price of $54.99 (£40).

The whisky was created by The Glenlivet’s cask experts under the guidance of Cask Master Kevin Balmforth. It marks the first time French white wine casks have been used in a Glenlivet expression.

The single malt was finished in casks from Château Sainte Marguerite, one of only 18 estates to hold the Cru Classé des Côtes de Provence designation. These were combined with Rivesaltes and Sauternes casks.

Each cask type contributes its own character. According to the brand, Château Sainte Marguerite white wine casks deliver citrus and floral notes, Rivesaltes casks add nuttiness and spice, and Sauternes casks bring marmalade and crème brûlée flavors.

The result layers orchard fruit and floral complexity over the distillery’s house style. Tasting notes include white peach, nectarine, pear and citrus.

"With the Provence Edition, we wanted to take The Glenlivet somewhere unexpected," said Balmforth. "The challenge was introducing new layers of flavour inspired by Provence while remaining unmistakably The Glenlivet."

He added: "By actively monitoring the finishing process and carefully balancing the influence of Château Sainte Marguerite, Rivesaltes, and Sauternes wine casks, we have created a whisky that delivers vibrant orchard fruit, elegant floral notes and exceptional complexity."

Aurélie Torre, vice president of marketing for specialty whiskies, said the expression "captures the spirit of The Glenlivet: rooted in our Scottish craft yet inspired by the spirit of the South of France."

The whisky recently won a Gold medal at the 2026 Scotch Whisky Masters. Torre described the award as "a testament to the quality, craftsmanship and innovation at the heart of this single malt."

The Glenlivet, produced in Scotland’s Livet Valley, is owned by Pernod Ricard. The brand is among the best-selling single malt Scotch whiskies worldwide.

The Provence Edition is presented in packaging featuring lavender hues and golden tones, alongside the brand’s signature teal.
