Tamnavulin has unveiled a 25-year-old single cask Scotch whisky finished in a Moscatel cask to celebrate the Speyside distillery’s 60th anniversary. The limited-edition bottling is restricted to just 290 bottles and will be available across Europe from April at a recommended retail price of £260.

READ THE STORYThe expression was distilled in the year 2000, during a brief period when the stills were refired amid a 12-year closure of the distillery. That makes the spirit produced at the turn of the millennium extremely scarce.
Presented at cask strength of 51.8% ABV, the whisky was matured for 20 years in American oak barrels before spending five years in a Moscatel cask. The brand says the extended oak maturation delivers a signature Speyside character, while the Moscatel finish adds a delicate floral and bright citrus dimension.

Official tasting notes from the brand describe oranges studded with cloves, poached pear, creamy custard, and a hint of balsamic on the nose. The palate offers dark chocolate-covered raisins, bright citrus, heather honey, and sweet liquorice. The finish is characterized by mandarin, roasted hazelnut, and chocolate caramel ganache.
The bottling will be available in specialist whisky bars, pubs, and shops, as well as at Tamnavulin Distillery during the Spirit of Speyside festival from April 29 to May 4.
Tamnavulin, whose name derives from the Gaelic for “Mill on the Hill,” was established in 1966 in the village of Tomnavoulin, Scotland. The distillery closed in 1995 but was meticulously restored and reopened in 2007. Since its revival, the brand has focused on crafting double-cask-matured single malts that emphasize sweet, smooth, and fruity Speyside character.
