Speyside’s Tamdhu Distillery has unveiled its latest annual limited-edition bottling to celebrate Chinese New Year 2026, the Year of the Horse. The new single malt Scotch whisky is fully matured in oloroso sherry casks and features bespoke packaging by acclaimed visual artist Page Tsou.

The Tamdhu Year of the Horse limited edition is bottled at a cask strength of 53.8% ABV.

It will be available from mid-November in the UK, with a recommended retail price of £150 (US$197) per 70cl bottle. The release is limited to 300 bottles for the UK market.

READ THE STORY

The packaging, created by Tsou, is rendered in shades of red and depicts a jockey and horse trotting past the Victorian-era Dalbeallie railway station, which is located at the distillery. The horse is a symbol of strength, perseverance, and swift success in the Chinese zodiac.

The launch is part of a wider trend in the spirits industry, with numerous brands releasing special bottlings to commemorate the Lunar New Year, a key gifting occasion in Asia and globally.

Iain Weir, brand director of Tamdhu Whisky, said: “This specially selected batch-strength bottling captures Tamdhu just as our founders intended when they established the brand on the banks of the River Spey in 1897.”

“The deep natural color is a gift of sherry casks and time alone, a perfect toast to determination.”

Weir continued: “In the Year of The Horse, we honour your ambition by raising a glass to the image of the renowned eight steeds and bless your path to success in the coming year. We are guided by our unwavering pursuit of perfection, maturing every drop of Tamdhu that we release only in the finest sherry-seasoned oloroso casks from Jerez in Spain.”

Official notes from the brand describe a nose of warming spices, mature oak, dried fruits, and honey.

The palate has notes of “profoundly rich oak, with ginger biscuits and caramelized pear,” leading to a long finish of full-bodied malt, sweet spices, and orange zest.
