SCOTCH Whisky Bar at The Balmoral hotel in Edinburgh has unveiled The 1945 Glen Grant Experience, a world-exclusive package centered on a bespoke 1945 Glen Grant Scotch whisky from independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. The multi-day journey across Scotland combines the acquisition of what the bar describes as one of the oldest and rarest Scotch whiskies in existence with a curated series of luxury cultural moments.

The 1945 Glen Grant at the heart of the experience is a one-of-one bottling distilled at the close of wartime Britain. Gordon & MacPhail, the Elgin-based independent bottler renowned for its unrivaled inventory of aged casks, supplied the whisky.

The experience begins with a behind-the-scenes visit to Gordon & MacPhail’s headquarters for a private tour and bespoke tasting. Guests then travel to Rothes Glen House for an exclusive-use overnight stay with private dining and chauffeured transport through Speyside.

A private visit to the Johnstons of Elgin mill follows, offering insight into Scotland’s textile heritage. The itinerary then returns to Edinburgh for two nights in The Balmoral’s Scone & Crombie Suite.

Dining is included at Number One, the hotel’s four AA Rosette restaurant. A personal wine tasting hosted by the head sommelier in the Number One wine cellar and a whisky tasting led by SCOTCH’s whisky ambassadors round out the Edinburgh program.

The journey concludes with a choice of signature “Suites & Beyond” moments at The Balmoral, such as a session with the hotel’s poet in residence, scent butler, or a private bagpipe lesson.

Bar manager Ross Barr said: “This experience represents the pinnacle of what SCOTCH and SCOTCH Club provide. Anchored by the acquisition of one of the world’s rarest whiskies, it grants unparalleled access to cultural heritage, master custodians and exceptional hospitality across Scotland; culminating in a refined legacy-defining journey we are proud to represent.”

Gordon & MacPhail has built a reputation over more than a century as one of the whisky industry’s most important custodians of aged stock. The company has previously released whiskies dating back to the 1940s and beyond, including record-setting bottlings from distilleries across Speyside and the Highlands.

SCOTCH Whisky Bar at The Balmoral is open daily from 4 p.m. and offers guided tastings and private experiences year-round. Enquiries regarding the experience or SCOTCH Club membership can be directed to [email protected].
