Root Shoot Debuts Two Six-Year American Single Malts

Colorado’s Root Shoot Spirits has released its first two six-year-old American single malt whiskeys to mark anniversaries for Root Shoot Malting and Olander Farms. The limited releases comprise a single-barrel whiskey available exclusively online and a small-batch bottled-in-bond expression offered online and at select Colorado retailers.

The six-year Single Barrel American Single Malt Whiskey celebrates Root Shoot Malting’s 10th anniversary, while the Small Batch Bottled-in-Bond American Single Malt Whiskey marks 100 years of the Olander family’s farm.

“These whiskies represent more than six years in a barrel,” said Todd Olander, Root Shoot’s founder and farmer. “They represent 100 years of our family farming this land and 10 years of Root Shoot Malting.”

Bottled at 61.5% ABV, the single-barrel release carries a suggested retail price of $89.99 per 750ml bottle. Fewer than 50 bottles have been allocated for online sale.

It matured for six years in first-use, medium-char American white oak barrels. The official notes from the brand describe dark cherry, toasted grain, cocoa and baking spice, alongside a bright botanical character.

Loveland artist Mallory Cash created the label artwork, depicting the view of Longs Peak from the malthouse window.

The bottled-in-bond expression, priced at $84.99 per 750ml bottle, is bottled at 50% ABV. Root Shoot blended five selected barrels for the release, with 60 bottles allocated for online sale.

Made from barley grown and malted on the Olander family’s permanently conserved farm in Loveland, Colorado, the whiskey was fermented off grain and distilled in a traditional pot still.

Its official notes from the brand include vanilla, caramel candy, dried cherry, baking spice and cocoa, with leather, brown sugar and mascarpone on the nose.

“Every bottle starts with barley we grow and malt ourselves, so being able to release both these whiskies during such a milestone year is incredibly special,” Olander said.

Announced on September 15, the releases follow Olander Farms’ Centennial Farm designation. Both whiskeys are listed through Root Shoot Spirits’ online store, with online ordering subject to availability and state laws.
