Welsh distiller Penderyn is releasing its first-ever age-statement whiskies, starting with a 25-year-old limited edition, alongside the 14th bottling in its Icons of Wales series. The launches are part of a series of celebrations timed around St David’s Day on March 1, which will also include a national program of tastings and events.

The first release is the 25-year-old Penderyn Barrel No.1, available for pre-order in February.

Drawn from a single sherry butt, the expression is limited to just 420 bottles and will retail for £1,200 (US$1,636).

This will then be followed up by further age-statement expressions at 12, 21, and 25 years old. These other bottlings will be released in stages beginning in May.

In addition, Penderyn will launch its Icons of Wales No.14: The Village in early March.

The Welsh single malt was finished in an Amarone cask and celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Portmeirion village, designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis.

As reported by The Spirits Business, Stephen Davies, CEO of Penderyn Distillery, said: “When Penderyn started 25 years ago, our ambition was clear: to bring back Welsh whisky and give it a voice on the world stage.”

He added: “We now have the depth of stock and maturity to do that with confidence. Our new Aged Statements are not about nostalgia – they’re about progression, patience and pride.”

Penderyn will host events to celebrate the new whiskies at Portmeirion Village in North Wales and at The Whisky Shop in Piccadilly, London.

The London event is part of the Wales Week London festival, held from February 21 to March 7.

Founded in 2000, Penderyn operates three distilleries across Wales. The sites in the Brecon Beacons, Llandudno, and Swansea have a combined production capacity of 900,000 liters of alcohol per year.

The brand exports its products to more than 50 countries, including the US, France, Germany, and Japan, while its visitor centers across Wales attract more than 100,000 guests annually.

According to The Spirits Business, Davies added: “Penderyn is proof that Welsh whisky has staying power. We’ve evolved from a curiosity into a global brand rooted in quality and storytelling.”
