Nashville-based Peg Leg Porker Spirits has announced the release of Spirit of America, a limited edition Bottled-in-Bond bourbon crafted to commemorate the United States’ 250th anniversary of independence. The whiskey, which carries a suggested retail price of $59.99, is finished through hickory charcoal in keeping with the brand’s signature barbecue-inspired profile.
The release is the creation of founder and pitmaster Carey Bringle, whose personal story of resilience is central to the brand’s identity. At age 17, Bringle lost his leg to osteogenic sarcoma but went on to build a nationally recognized barbecue brand and one of the most distinctive bourbon portfolios in the country.
“If we’re celebrating 250 years of America, it better be done the right way,” said Bringle. “Bottled-in-Bond. High standards. No shortcuts. Let’s raise a glass together.”

READ THE STORYThe Spirit of America bourbon carries the Bottled-in-Bond designation, one of the most respected classifications in American whiskey. Established by the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, the standard requires the spirit to be produced by one distiller, from one distilling season, aged at least four years, stored in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at exactly 100 proof.
The brand has described the result as a bold yet balanced bourbon with smooth, smoky complexity derived from its hickory charcoal finishing process.
Alongside the release, Peg Leg Porker is launching a national “Raise a Glass to 250” toast initiative, encouraging Americans to honor the anniversary at backyard barbecues, Memorial Day events, Fourth of July gatherings, and venues across the country.
A portion of proceeds from the limited edition release will support Hearty Hog’s Veteran BBQ Camp, a Tennessee nonprofit that teaches military veterans the craft of barbecue and helps them build community and new careers after service.
The Bringle family’s American roots trace back to 1727, with generations carrying forward traditions of service, hospitality, and live-fire cooking. Members of the family became known during military service in the Philippines for cooking whole hogs for fellow servicemen, a tradition that shaped the barbecue heritage Bringle carries forward today.
Spirit of America is intended to become an annual release. “This isn’t a one-time release,” said Bringle. “We are starting a tradition — raising a glass to the people, traditions and milestones that define America every summer.”
Peg Leg Porker Spirits products are currently available in select US states and the United Kingdom, with national shipping available where regulated and continued expansion underway.
