Orphan Barrel has unveiled Night Sage, a 25-year-old blended Canadian whisky, as the 25th limited-edition release in the Diageo-owned collection. The whisky is now available at select spirits retailers nationwide and online at TheBar.com and ReserveBar.com for a suggested retail price of $225 per 750mL bottle.
Night Sage is the second blended Canadian whisky to appear in the Orphan Barrel lineup. The liquid was distilled in Ontario and Manitoba and matured in two barrel types: first-dump oak barrels, used only once prior, and multi-use barrels, both of which previously held other Canadian whisky.
Like all Orphan Barrel expressions, Night Sage is released in a single exclusive batch. Once the allocation is sold through, it will not be produced again.

READ THE STORY“Night Sage reflects the guiding principle of the Orphan Barrel project: a fundamental respect for time and the patience to allow whiskies to mature under careful supervision until they are at their peak,” said Mark Balkenende, master blender Canada at Diageo.
“After 25 years in seasoned oak, this whisky reveals remarkable depth, layered richness and an elegant finish that rewards slow appreciation,” Balkenende added.
The label artwork draws inspiration from the snow owl, described by the brand as a creature said to appear only to those worthy of its knowledge. Orphan Barrel said the imagery represents themes of patience and wisdom, paying homage to the passage of time and the craft of whisky development.
Official tasting notes from the brand describe Night Sage as opening with aromas of butterscotch, vanilla and gently toasted oak. The palate is layered with brown sugar, golden toffee, walnut and fig. The finish is warm and lingering, with notes of dried fruit, vanilla and oak. Orphan Barrel recommends enjoying the whisky neat or over one large ice cube.
The Orphan Barrel project was established by Diageo to uncover and bottle rare whiskeys from barrels aging across its vast inventory. Previous releases have included expressions sourced from distilleries across North America, each bottled as a one-time offering.
Diageo, the global spirits company behind brands including Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal and Don Julio, is listed on both the London Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. Night Sage marks the latest addition to the company’s growing portfolio of limited-edition and prestige whisky releases.
