The first offering of the 1910 Extra Extra Old debuted in 2021. While other distilleries experimented with secondary aging and extended maturation times, Old Forester did not often venture into these creative avenues. With that first release, the celebrated result found an audience who appreciated its complex flavor.
Continuing the tradition from the first release, this year’s offering has been aged for 24 months in a heavily charred oak barrel. That extra char is a nod to the 1910 fire that decimated the Main Distillery. At the time, the mature whisky was rebarreled in new barrels. While it was an act of necessity, the impact had a lasting legacy.

Speaking about the 2025 release, Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo said, “This bourbon exemplifies our innovative spirit at Old Forester by taking something great and making it even better. The additional maturation leveraged to produce this release unlocks incredibly robust and distinctive flavor.” While Melissa Rift has had her hand on this variation, Trigo seems to be stepping up to the category.
2025 1910 Extra Extra Old Release is a celebration of sweetness
Old Forester drinkers have come to expect a slightly sweeter slant to their releases. While never cloying, the distillery has long been known for that slightly sugary note in its bourbons. Fans of the traditional Mint Julep appreciate that sweetness when combined with a sprig of fresh mint.
Similar to previous releases, the 2025 offering has a sweet, toffee-like aroma. While there is a warmth of toasted hazelnuts, it is the brown buttery sugar that invites the first sip. That touch of indulgence creates an instant craving.
On the palate, the luscious mouth feel is abundantly apparent. The toasted oak feels warm, inviting, even a touch comforting. While the baking spices feel a little nostalgic, the sweet almond adds whimsy which keeps the flavor vivacious.
For the finish, chocolate brings a sense of satisfaction. Followed by cinnamon, the spicy note combined with the sweet oak wraps the drinker up in a warm hug. It is instantly fulfilling.
The 2025 release of the Old Forester Extra Extra Old stands at 93 proof. The limited release is priced at $64.99 a bottle. Sales began on July 16 at the Distillery, select Kentucky retailers, and online. Check with the website for shipping parameters.
