Old Forester has unveiled High Angels’ Share Rye Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey as the newest release in its limited 117 Series collection. The inaugural batch, bottled at 110 proof (55% ABV) in 375 mL bottles, will be available in March 2026 at the Old Forester Distillery and select Kentucky retailers at $64.99.

The small-batch release draws from barrels that experienced elevated evaporative loss during maturation. This phenomenon, commonly known as the angel’s share, occurs when heat-cycled warehousing and specific barrel conditions cause certain casks to lose more liquid than usual.

Old Forester describes these as rare barrels that develop intensely concentrated flavor profiles.

“We’re continually amazed by what our warehouses can produce,” said Caleb Trigo, assistant master distiller at Old Forester. “With High Angels’ Share Rye, the angels clearly left their mark, yielding a rye whiskey that’s bold, concentrated, and deeply rewarding.”

Trigo added: “It’s a celebration of both old-world tradition and the serendipitous magic that comes from maturation in motion.”

Batch No. 001 marks the inaugural release of the expression. The brand said it was crafted for enthusiasts who appreciate depth of character, rich spice, and concentrated complexity.

Official tasting notes from the brand describe the nose as “decadent and aromatic,” packed with rich chocolate and hazelnut, complemented by subtle ripe strawberry and bright herbal tones. On the palate, citrus oils, burnt sugar, and sandalwood lead with layers of peppercorn and eucalyptus adding complexity. The finish features earthy peppercorn that lingers, rounded out by hints of toasted oak, cedar, and eucalyptus.

The release joins Old Forester’s 117 Series, a collection that highlights distinctive barrels and showcases the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and innovation. Previous entries in the series have explored unique warehouse conditions and aging techniques to produce limited expressions.

Old Forester is the founding brand of Brown-Forman, established in 1870 by George Garvin Brown. The Louisville-based distillery has maintained continuous production through Prohibition and remains one of the longest-running bourbon brands in the United States.

The High Angels’ Share Rye release continues a broader trend among American whiskey producers toward limited, small-format bottlings that emphasize barrel selection and maturation experimentation.
