The National Bar at the National Exchange Hotel in Nevada City, California has launched a new winter cocktail menu titled “Overheard at the Party.” The themed menu features eight original cocktails created by the bar team, each inspired by moments and conversations that occur when friends and family gather.
“The National has been a place of gathering since 1856, and this bar team is especially glad to keep that tradition alive for another season,” the press release states.

Known locally as “The Nash,” the historic bar dates back to 1865 and reopened in 2021 following extensive renovations by Acme Hospitality.
Each cocktail on the menu is priced at $14 and tells its own story. “Drink Your Dessert,” created by Iris Bocianowski, combines South Fork Vodka with crème de menthe, cacao, and oat milk for what the brand describes as “a grown-up dessert in a glass.”
Lindsay Hobbs contributed “Cousin Carol’s Unsolicited Advice,” featuring Farmers Botanical Gin, black sesame, miso, and lemon. The official notes describe it as “velvety, nutty and savory; a gimlet for the adventurous.”
Other creations include “Rumor Has It…” by Ruby Stahl, combining Corralejo Reposado with winter spices, and “Competitive Charades” by Lauren Lindstrom, which blends Rooster Rojo Smoked Pineapple Tequila with Nixta Licor de Elote and Lambrusco.
Marc Allen’s “Hide the Good Bottle” pairs Apologue Saffron Liqueur with Zirbenz Stone Pine and Pierre Ferrand Cognac. Thomas Colbert offers “Who Spiked the Cider?” featuring Old Forester Bourbon, Amaro Montenegro, apple cider, and chai spice.
The menu also includes a secret special called “Sweater Weather,” created by Kyle Potts using South Fork Vodka, St. George Spiced Pear, and Licor 43.
The cocktails will be available through spring at the bar, which operates Monday through Thursday from noon to 10 p.m., Friday noon to 11 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
