Louis XIII Cognac has released Black Pearl: Tribute to the Birthplace of Louis XIII, a new limited-edition expression within its Black Pearl collection. Unveiled on 9 September 2026 in Cognac, France, the release is inspired by Le Grollet, the historic cellar where the brand originated.
The edition is limited to 398 decanters worldwide.
At its heart is an eau-de-vie selected by Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau from the House’s historic collection of demijohns. It is described as the sole eau-de-vie carrying the imprint of Le Grollet, transmitted by his predecessor, Pierrette Trichet.

Loiseau infused the eau-de-vie into a single, hand-selected tierçon from the cellar to create the blend.
To reveal its character, Louis XIII has created what it calls its first-ever temperature-driven ritual. Each decanter is presented in a bespoke cooling cellar, allowing the liquid to rest at a minimum of 13°C (55.4°F).
According to the brand, the flavors continue to develop as the liquid warms in the glass. The ritual recreates the natural conditions of Le Grollet.

READ THE STORYThe brand’s official notes describe the chilled liquid as “a dense, velvety embrace of beeswax, honey, precious wood, and patchouli.” As it reaches ambient temperature, deeper facets emerge, including “warm spices, richer rancio, nutmeg, and whispers of chocolate.”
The decanter has been reimagined with midnight-blue reflections inspired by “the mystery, depth and darkness of Le Grollet.”
“Each tasting in Le Grollet is a deeply moving sensory experience,” said Baptiste Loiseau, Louis XIII Cellar Master. “Its aromatic palette is beautifully elevated by the cellar’s atmosphere, its ethereal humidity, cool temperature, and enveloping half-light in Winter.”
Loiseau added: “It reveals hidden facets of Louis XIII, unveiling a richer, more profound essence, akin to uncovering ancient treasures.”
Ludovic du Plessis, Director of Rémy Cointreau Prestige Division, said: “For the first time, we brought the experience of the Cellar beyond its walls, with this singular blend and its exclusive temperature-driven ritual.”
Louis XIII is owned by Rémy Cointreau. The Cognac is crafted using eaux-de-vie aged up to 100 years.
Following its unveiling, the expression will be available by the glass in Paris, London, New York, Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur.
Decanters carry an SRP of $28,000 (£20,700, ₹26,66,436) through the Louis XIII network of private client directors.
