Lindores Abbey Distillery in Fife, Scotland, will release Nectere on June 25, a limited-release single malt whisky matured exclusively in a combination of four sherry cask types. Priced at £65 for a 70cl bottle at 47.2% ABV, the expression draws on Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, Amontillado, and Palo Cortado casks to deliver what the distillery describes as a layered, full-bodied whisky.

The release is designed to unite centuries of knowledge in a single glass, tying Lindores Abbey’s historical roots as the spiritual home of Scotch whisky to the evolving tradition of sherry production in Spain.
Lindores Abbey is widely recognized as the site of the earliest recorded reference to Scotch whisky distillation, documented in the Exchequer Rolls of Scotland in 1494.

Each of the four cask types contributes distinct characteristics to the final liquid. Oloroso provides structure and dried fruit. Pedro Ximénez adds richness and natural color. Amontillado introduces marmalade notes and roasted nuttiness. Palo Cortado brings elegance and subtle oxidative character.
The Fife barley used in Nectere is grown on the same land once farmed by the Lindores Abbey monks, creating a connection between the landscape, the local farming community, and the whisky itself.
Distillery manager Gary Haggart commented on the launch: “Taking a product such as Nectere from concept to customer is a rare opportunity in our industry. It represents the culmination of immense hard work, creativity, determination and collaboration, while reflecting the very best of us as a team and as a distillery.”

Haggart added: “Nectere stands as a testament to what can be achieved when talented people come together with a shared purpose and commitment to excellence.”
The distillery confirmed it will build new, direct relationships with Spanish bodegas as part of a longer-term sourcing strategy, adding a defined layer of Spanish provenance and quality control to its cask program.
Official tasting notes from the brand describe Nectere as mahogany in color. The nose opens with sweet treacle, red apples, vanilla custard cream, raisins, and cinnamon spices. On the palate, mellow molasses, sticky dark fruits, chocolate-covered raisins, nutty macaroons, toffee, and pleasant layers of warming spices unfold with a velvety texture. The finish is long-lasting, with creamy notes joined by touches of nutmeg and cinnamon.
Nectere will be available from June 25.
