Johnnie Walker has unveiled Johnnie Walker Black Cask Blended Scotch Whisky, a new permanent expression aged entirely in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels. The product, which carries a suggested retail price of $34.99 (750ml, 43% ABV), will be available across the United States beginning March 1, 2026.
The release marks an effort by the Diageo-owned brand to bridge the flavor profiles of American whiskey and Scotch whisky within a single bottle.

Master Blender Dr. Emma Walker led the development of the expression. Black Cask is built from specially selected whiskies drawn from the core of Johnnie Walker Black Label, including liquid from the Cameronbridge, Glen Elgin, and Roseisle distilleries.
The exclusive use of ex-bourbon barrels distinguishes Black Cask from other expressions in the Johnnie Walker range, which typically employ a variety of cask types.
“At Johnnie Walker we are constantly pushing the boundaries of what great whisky can be,” said Dr. Emma Walker. “For more than 200 years, Johnnie Walker has shaped the world of Scotch, and that heritage gives us the confidence and authority to innovate.”
She added: “With Black Cask, we’ve brought together two remarkable whisky traditions in a way only Johnnie Walker can, starting with some of the most expressive whiskies from the heart of Black Label and maturing them exclusively in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels to unlock new depth, sweetness, and warmth. The result is a beautifully layered whisky that feels excitingly new yet remains unmistakably Johnnie Walker.”
Official tasting notes from the brand describe the liquid as offering “creamy vanilla sweetness, rich caramel depth, gentle baking spice, and smooth oak warmth.”
The expression is designed to be enjoyed neat, over ice, or in cocktails. The brand has developed two recommended serves: a Black Cask Old Fashioned made with rich honey syrup, almond bitters, and orange bitters, and a Black Cask Gold Rush featuring fresh lemon juice and cinnamon honey syrup.
Jesse Damashek, SVP, North America Whisky Portfolio at Diageo, positioned the launch within the brand’s broader innovation strategy.
“Johnnie Walker has never stopped moving forward. Progress and innovation are at the core of what we stand for, embodied by ‘Keep Walking,'” said Damashek. “Black Cask is a powerful example of how we break through the expected: a new whisky that reflects evolving tastes while staying true to what people love about Johnnie Walker.”
Damashek continued: “This whisky reinforces our commitment to delivering the world’s most exceptional whisky experiences.”
A national campaign will support the launch across the United States. The rollout includes digital and social media storytelling, immersive sampling and tasting events, and educational programming led by Dr. Emma Walker.
A multi-market tour will cover key regions including Texas, California, Florida, New York, and New Jersey.
The launch comes as Scotch whisky brands continue to compete for share of the American whiskey drinker’s palate. The U.S. remains one of the most valuable markets globally for Scotch, and expressions that incorporate bourbon-cask maturation have become an increasingly common strategy for appealing to consumers familiar with American whiskey flavor profiles.
Johnnie Walker is the world’s best-selling Scotch whisky brand, according to IWSR 2024 data, with products sold in more than 160 countries. The broader range includes Red Label, Black Label, Double Black, Green Label, Gold Label Reserve, Aged 18 Years, and Blue Label.
Black Cask will remain a permanent part of the Johnnie Walker portfolio in the U.S. and is available wherever fine spirits are sold.
