Jefferson’s Bourbon has redesigned the packaging for its four core whiskeys and introduced an eight-year age statement for its standard Reserve expression. Announced on September 22, the update also raises Reserve to 96 proof and Very Small Batch to 88 proof. (prnewswire.com)
The refreshed 750ml bottles are rolling out across the U.S. through spirits retailers, bars and restaurants, as well as the brand’s website. The range comprises Very Small Batch Bourbon, Triple-Rye, Reserve 8-Year-Old and Ocean Aged at Sea. Jefferson’s expects 375ml, 1L and 1.75L formats to follow later this year. (prnewswire.com)
Reserve’s age statement means the youngest whiskey in the blend has spent at least eight years in American oak. Jefferson’s says it selected older, more mature barrels for the updated expression; the brand’s official tasting notes describe dark fruit and vanilla custard, followed by baking spice, oak and toasted almond, with a long, spicy finish. READ THE STORY“Getting to this age statement meant going back through our older, more mature barrels and crafting this bourbon with intention,” said Ale Ochoa, Jefferson’s master blender. (prnewswire.com)
The change applies to the standard Reserve bottling, rather than marking the first eight-year-old whiskey to carry the Reserve name. Jefferson’s has also released an eight-year-old Reserve Cask Strength expression, which sits outside the four-product core lineup included in the packaging rollout. (jeffersonsbourbon.com)
At 88 proof, or 44% ABV, Very Small Batch is positioned by the brand for drinking neat, over ice or in cocktails. Jefferson’s says the packaging redesign gives the four expressions a more cohesive appearance and makes the range easier to navigate. The announcement did not provide new recommended retail prices. Founded in 1997 by Trey Zoeller and his father, Chet, Jefferson’s is owned by Pernod Ricard. Its Ocean expression reflects the brand’s approach to maturation: fully mature bourbon barrels spend additional time aboard ships before bottling. Earlier this year, Jefferson’s announced a partnership to mature Ocean barrels across Holland America Line’s fleet, extending that program beyond its existing voyages.
