Suntory Global Spirits has unveiled its first permanent House of Suntory shop-in-shop at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), marking a new milestone for Japanese whisky in luxury travel retail. The 30-square-meter boutique in Terminal 1 Departures, East Hall North launched in March 2026 in partnership with Duty Zero by cdf under China Duty Free Group (CDFG).

The space features the company’s flagship Japanese whisky brands, including Hibiki, Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Toki, alongside its Roku gin.

“The launch of our first permanent House of Suntory shop-in-shop at Hong Kong International Airport marks an inspiring new milestone in our partnership with Duty Zero by cdf,” said Ashish Gandham, managing director of global travel retail at Suntory Global Spirits.

“This space allows us to share the very best of Japanese craftsmanship with a truly international audience,” Gandham added. “By uniting immersive design with our most exceptional whiskies, we continue to premiumise the global travel retail spirits landscape, enrich the traveller experience, and strengthen the presence of The House of Suntory across this vital channel.”

The boutique’s design draws on traditional Japanese aesthetics. Translucent Washi screens and wooden lattices inspired by Kigumi craftsmanship frame the exterior. Inside, a circular feature wall inspired by Marumado rounded windows found in traditional Japanese architecture showcases the flagship whisky range in a gallery-style setting.

A dedicated tasting bar anchors the experience. Expert brand ambassadors guide travelers through curated whisky journeys, with a focus on rare, higher-aged and high-value releases.

An adjoining gifting zone offers personalized recommendations and presentation options.

“We are committed to creating a world-class retail environment where iconic brands can showcase their portfolio and express their heritage in a compelling way,” said Enzo Li, deputy general manager at Duty Zero by cdf. “This new House of Suntory opening adds further depth to our prestige spirits collection, offering travellers a refined destination for discovery, gifting and rare whisky exploration.”

HKIA ranks among Asia Pacific’s busiest international airports and serves as a key hub for duty-free spirits retail. The opening reflects a broader industry trend toward permanent branded boutiques in travel retail, as premium spirits producers seek deeper engagement with international consumers beyond traditional shelf displays. Suntory Global Spirits has expanded its travel retail footprint in recent years as demand for Japanese whisky continues to grow worldwide.
