House of Hazelwood has released Calm Waters 1992, a blended malt Scotch whisky within its Legacy Collection. The expression is available now from the brand’s website and will roll out to key international markets in the coming months.

READ THE STORYThe whisky was distilled in 1992 and matured for more than three decades. It draws inspiration from the River Spey, which flows through Scotland’s Speyside whisky region. Only 297 bottles have been released worldwide. Each carries a UK recommended retail selling price of £950 .
The whisky is bottled at 52.1% ABV. It was crafted from a marriage of weightier Speyside malts, brought together from a selection of first-fill and refill sherry butts.

“Calm Waters is a perfect reflection of the quiet strength that defines so many of the whiskies within our inventory – a spirit that evolves gently yet reveals remarkable depth over time,” said Jonathan Gibson, director of House of Hazelwood. “It is a testament to both the character of Speyside malts and the enduring philosophy that whisky is ready only when it’s ready.”
According to the brand, the name reflects a “defining duality” of “apparent tranquillity paired with hidden power,” mirroring the character of the River Spey.
The Legacy Collection celebrates rare parcels from the Gordon family’s extensive inventory. Each whisky is selected for its quality and the story it tells of time, place, and craftsmanship.

House of Hazelwood is owned by William Grant & Sons, the family-owned company behind brands including Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, and Monkey Shoulder. The House of Hazelwood label was launched in 2022 to showcase aged stock from the Gordon family’s private collection.
The official tasting notes from the brand for Calm Waters describe a nose of treacle toffee and liquorice, supported by a herbal framework with subtle notes of fennel and linseed.
The palate is described as full-bodied and richly textured, balancing sweet, dark notes with herbal depth. The finish is “exceptionally long and lingering, unfolding gradually with elegance and persistence.”
