California’s Hinterhaus Distilling will release the fourth and final bottling of its 21-year-old Trapper’s Oath rye whiskey on August 29, marking the end of a four-year aging and blending program that has attracted collectors nationwide.

The Sierra Nevada distillery began its Trapper’s Oath series nearly four years ago with Canadian rye whiskey that underwent additional aging at the company’s 4,000-foot elevation facility in Arnold, California. Previous batches sold out quickly to enthusiasts seeking extra-aged rye whiskeys.

Unique Aging Process for Hinterhaus Trapper’s Oath

The 21-year-old whiskey consists of 53% rye and 47% corn sourced from Canada. Hinterhaus extended the original aging by storing the whiskey in their mountain warehouse, where seasonal temperature variations accelerate maturation.

“We age traditionally in our distillery’s non-temp controlled aging warehouse which enjoys 4 distinctive seasons and plenty of drastic temperature swings throughout the year,” explains Hinterhaus co-owner Bonnie Boglioli-Randall. Boglioli-Randall. “We chose a road less travelled for this special rye by putting it into our own ex-bourbon casks which also aged stout beer for a nearby brewery for over 3 years.”

Limited Availability of Hinterhaus Trapper’s Oath Release

The final batch will be available for purchase at the distillery’s bottle shop in Arnold and through their website for shipping. Select California retailers will also carry the whiskey through the LibDib distribution platform.

Founded in 2020 by husband and wife team Nate and Bonnie Randall, Hinterhaus operates from the Stanislaus National Forest area. The distillery produces both in-house distilled spirits and sourced whiskeys that undergo unique aging and finishing methods.

The company has earned recognition from the American Distilling Institute, American Craft Spirits Association, and Wine Enthusiast. Hinterhaus is a member of the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission and the American Craft Spirits Association.
