A century after its 1925 launch, Green Spot whiskey returns to its 10-year-old roots with a special anniversary edition while partnering with sustainable paint brand YesColours to create a commemorative green shade.
Green Spot 100 Year Anniversary Honors Original Age Statement
The limited edition release celebrates the whiskey’s origins when Mitchell & Son marked 10-year-old casks with green paint daubs at Dublin’s Jameson Distillery. This practice inspired the Green Spot name that has endured for 100 years.
The anniversary expression, bottled at 46% ABV, aims to recreate the depth of the original 10-year-old whiskey. Official tasting notes describe floral honey, toffee, and autumnal fruit aromas, followed by spice, vanilla, and dried fruit flavors. The finish features orchard fruits and pot still character.
David McCabe, Chief Blender at Irish Distillers, stated: “Our green daub has always been more than a symbol. It’s a mark of trust, craftsmanship and the care that goes into every drop of our Green Spot expression.”
The commemorative bottle, designed with agency WMH&I, features green brushstrokes accented with gold that reference the traditional cask markings.
YesColours Creates Bespoke Green Spot Paint
The collaboration with YesColours extends the anniversary celebration beyond whiskey. The sustainable paint company developed a custom green shade that captures the heritage of the original cask markings.
John Stubbs, Founder and CEO of YesColours, commented on bringing “a fresh perspective to the paint shade” while honoring the whiskey’s iconic green color.
The Green Spot 100 Year Anniversary Limited Edition 10 Year Old retails for €85 in Ireland and £69 in the UK.
A special package including the whiskey and one liter of Green Spot paint sells for €105.
The commemorative paint shade is available separately through YesColours for €32.94 or £28.
This release comes from Midleton Distillery, which the company describes as the world’s most awarded international distillery.
