Golf Whisky Collection To Be Auctioned at Hansons

A unique collection of 50 limited-edition whisky bottles celebrating golf’s greatest moments will go under the hammer on July 29 at Hansons Auctioneers. The collection, assembled by a St Andrews Golf Club member, features bottles commemorating The Open, the Ryder Cup, and golf legends.

The star lot is a Johnnie Walker Blue Label marking the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, estimated at £180-£280. The presentation case bears the number 1027 of 2352 and displays a golfer image alongside Gleneagles Hotel and the Ryder Cup logo.

St Andrews and The Open Take Center Stage at Hansons Auction

The collection showcases 14 bottles connected to St Andrews, the home of golf. Among them is “The Sixth,” a Glen Moray single cask from the St Andrews Whisky Company, estimated at £65-£115.

Three 10-year-old single malts called “Spirits of St Andrews” honor golfing pioneers with ties to the legendary Fife club. The trio carries an estimate of £120-£220. The first bottle, “The Original Three” from 2015, features artwork by David Joy depicting Allan Robertson, Tom Morris Sr., and Tom Morris Jr. These men shaped golf’s early history at St Andrews, with Old Tom Morris advising on the course layout.

Ten bottles relate to The Open championship, including a Loch Lomond Whiskies release celebrating the 1997 tournament at Royal Portrush. The 19-year-old bottle marking the 148th Open at the County Antrim club is estimated at £100-£140.

Macallan and Miniatures Round Out Hansons Whisky Sale

The sale features several Macallan bottles, including a 14-year-old release commemorating the Moray Open’s 100th anniversary in Lossiemouth, July 2005. This bottle carries an estimate of £130-£180.

Adding novelty to the auction are 72 golf ball-shaped miniatures celebrating The Open championship.

Hansons’ wine and whisky specialist Stuart Palmer said: “The sale brings together two iconic Scottish pursuits – golfing and whisky. It is a collector’s dream and the perfect toast to golf’s greatest week!”

The collection offers whisky enthusiasts and golf fans a rare opportunity to own bottles that capture pivotal moments in golf history. From St Andrews legends to modern champions like Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus, these limited editions tell the story of golf through Scotland’s national drink.
