Godawan Triple Cask Whiskey Launches Travel Exclusive

Indian single malt producer Godawan has launched a new Triple Cask expression exclusively for global travel retail markets, marking the brand’s first duty-free offering since its 2022 debut.

The new whiskey debuted at Dubai Duty-Free and Bengaluru Duty Free in June 2025, with plans to expand to additional Indian airports throughout the year. Priced at $66 (INR 5,500), the 700ml bottle targets international travelers seeking premium spirits for gifts or personal collections.

Indian Whiskey Meets Global Travel Market

The Triple Cask Travel Exclusive represents Godawan’s entry into the duty-free liquor market, which Grand View Research estimates was worth $7.49 billion in 2024. The sector is expected to grow at 10.2% annually through 2030, driven by increased international travel and consumer demand for unique spirits.

“Godawan Triple Cask Travel Exclusive edition introduces a new dimension of flavour and depth while staying rooted in the mindful luxury and provenance that define the brand,” said Vikram Damodaran, Chief Innovation Officer at Diageo India.
The expression is crafted at the Alwar distillery in Rajasthan, where extreme desert temperatures influence the maturation process. The whiskey ages in ex-bourbon casks before finishing in a combination of Pedro Ximénez sherry, virgin oak, and cherry wood casks. Bottled at 46% ABV, the official tasting notes describe golden-brown liquid with floral and fruity aromas, a sweet and textured palate, and a light, balanced wood finish.

Premium Whiskey Strategy Targets Airport Shoppers

Travel retail has become increasingly important for premium spirits brands seeking global exposure. Airports provide access to affluent international consumers who often purchase luxury items while traveling.

The launch reflects broader trends in Indian whiskey production. India remains the world’s largest whiskey consumer by volume, though most consumption consists of locally produced blended spirits. Premium Indian single malts like Godawan represent a small but growing segment targeting both domestic and international markets.

Godawan takes its name from the Great Indian Bustard, a critically endangered bird native to Rajasthan. The brand contributes to habitat preservation efforts with each bottle sold. Since launching in 2022, Godawan has released five expressions, each featuring different cask finishes.

The Triple Cask Travel Exclusive draws design inspiration from traditional Rajasthani jaali woodwork, connecting the product to its regional heritage. This cultural element aims to differentiate the whiskey in competitive duty-free environments where consumers choose between spirits from established whiskey-producing nations.

Diageo India positions the release as part of its broader strategy to elevate Indian single malts in international markets. The company operates multiple distilleries across India and owns several domestic spirits brands.

The whiskey’s availability remains limited to select duty-free locations, creating exclusivity that often appeals to collectors and enthusiasts. Initial distribution focuses on major Indian airports before potential expansion to other Asian travel retail venues.
