Fresh from claiming the prestigious title of World’s Best Single Malt for its 12-year-old scotch, The GlenAllachie has unveiled an exciting new limited-edition series called Sinteis. The name, pronounced “sin-teesh,” derives from the Scottish Gaelic word for synthesis to capture the series’ concept of harmoniously blending spirits from different cask types.
Award-Winning Master Distiller Introduces Sinteis Part I
GlenAllachie is an independently operated scotch whisky company, led by legendary Master Distiller Billy Walker. Sinteis Part I is the inaugural release in this innovative new series. Walker, whose illustrious career spans an impressive 53 years across numerous renowned whisky brands, personally selected the casks for this limited edition from GlenAllachie’s extensive inventory of 50,000 casks stored across 16 warehouses in Speyside.
This 2014 vintage single malt is available from today from their online shop at $310 plus shipping (or directly at the distillery visitor center at £74.99). It’s been crafted by marrying spirits aged in Chinquapin virgin oak and first-fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry puncheons. The Chinquapin casks, crafted from a native American oak from Missouri’s Ozark region, impart distinctive sweet spice and aniseed notes that have been balanced with rich dark chocolate and ripe fruit flavors from the Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.
“The team and I are thrilled to bring this alluring new series, with its unique concept, to curious whisky drinkers around the world,” shares Walker in the official press release. “The concept allows me, as a blender, the creative freedom to think up something out of the ordinary. For this first release, I set out to make virgin oak – a relatively uncommon wood type for maturation – more approachable. It truly is a synthesis of the bold and the beloved.”
Cask Strength Scotch Craftsmanship
Sinteis Part I features a hand-drawn symbol in foil that visually represents “the fusion of multiple wood types,” created by Scottish creative Kayley Barbour. Perhaps most important to existing lovers of GlenAllachie whisky is the continuation of their quality-focused approach. The debut for the series is presented at its natural cask strength of 57.8% ABV, unchill filtered and without artificial coloring.
The official tasting notes suggest we can expect liquorice, butterscotch and grilled honeycomb, complemented by candied orchard fruits, cocoa and treacle tart. On the palate ginger, butterscotch and candied lemon slices, followed by fig jam, blackberries and molasses, concluding with cinnamon spice and rich cocoa on the finish.
