The GlenAllachie Distillers Company has launched The GlenAllachie 1990 35-Year-Old Cask Strength, a Speyside single malt distilled in 1990 and created by master blender Billy Walker. The expression is bottled at 50.2% ABV, is non-chill filtered with natural color, and carries a suggest price of $2,025 (£1,512.99).
The whisky brings together four cask types: Mizunara virgin oak, American virgin oak, Oloroso sherry, and Pedro Ximénez sherry. Mizunara oak, sourced from 200-year-old Japanese trees, sits at the heart of the blend and is known for imparting notes of coconut, pineapple, sandalwood, and Japanese incense.

Billy Walker, master blender and owner of The GlenAllachie, said: “This 35-year-old embodies everything I have learnt over the last five decades – masterful cask selection and management, patience, and sensory instinct.”
“By uniting these four extraordinary cask types, particularly the Mizunara which requires a superlative level of skill to work with, we’re extremely proud to have created a whisky that is as complex as it is harmonious,” Walker added. “It is truly a marvel of time and a project that has challenged us in the very best way.”
Official tasting notes from the brand describe the nose as mocha, crystallized cinnamon, and treacle tart, followed by cocoa, toasted hazelnuts, pineapple, ginger, and heather honey. The palate delivers cocoa, baking spices, and chocolate-coated raisins, complemented by coconut, brandied orchard fruits, sandalwood, vanilla, dried red fruits, and honeycomb.
Scottish designer Kayley Barbour developed the packaging in-house. The bottle sits in a Valchromat box housed within a bespoke wooden case inspired by Kumiko, the traditional Japanese woodworking art of assembling intricate patterns without nails.
Each side of the box features four unique motifs representing the four casks used in the creation of the release. The bottle carries no label, instead the writing in foil allows the liquid’s mahogany color to show through.
Walker’s career spans more than 50 years in Scotch whisky. He previously led BenRiach, GlenDronach, and Glenglassaugh before acquiring The GlenAllachie in 2017. Under his ownership, the GlenAllachie 12-Year-Old was named World’s Best Single Malt at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards.
The distillery holds over 50,000 casks across 16 on-site warehouses. Since returning to independent ownership, it has reduced production capacity from four million to around one million liters of alcohol and extended fermentation to 160 hours — nearly three times the industry standard.
The GlenAllachie 1990 35-Year-Old Cask Strength is available now from The GlenAllachie Distillery, online, and via select UK retailers. Global availability will follow in the coming weeks.
