Garrison Brothers, the oldest legal whiskey distillery in Texas, has opened its first-ever pre-sale for Hye Rye Bourbon Whiskey. The pre-sale runs July 27 to August 10, 2026, with bottles available for pick-up at the Hye, Texas, distillery in fall 2028.
Hye Rye first debuted on December 5, 2020. The release marked the 87th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition in America and the birthday of founder Dan Garrison.

That first release yielded 1,000 bottles, each priced at $99.99. It was available only at the distillery. The limited-run expression is expected to be a 98-proof rye bourbon whiskey.
As the so-called “flavoring grain” in many bourbons, which must contain at least 51% corn, rye contributes spice, savory depth, and complexity to whiskey. Rye whiskey has been distilled in America since the late 1700s and has seen a recent resurgence. High rye bourbons have also seen an increase in popularity.

The Hye Rye story dates back to 2012 when Garrison Brothers Master Distiller, Donnis Todd, sourced several hundred bags of organic rye from Justin Crownover’s Lonestar Family Farms in Sunray, Texas, aiming to create a sweet mash bill of 52% South Texas corn, 37% organic rye, and 11% barley. He aged the test barrels for two years, tasting them at six-month intervals.
He eventually decided to age the bourbon for another five years in order to achieve a more robust and rounded flavor profile. So, in the summer of 2015, Todd placed 14 barrels in rickhouses throughout the ranch to allow the whiskey to continue maturing.

READ THE STORY“When we filled the first Hye Rye barrels, I had no idea it would become one of the most talked-about bourbons we’ve ever made,” said Todd of the Hye Rye production process. “It tested us from the first grain delivery to the day we finally bottled it, but every obstacle made us more determined to get it right.”
On the relaunch of Hye Rye, he said: “Bringing Hye Rye back means so much to me. It’s the continuation of a story that’s been years in the making.”
Customers may purchase up to four bottles at $99.99 each, plus applicable sales tax, via the distillery’s e-commerce site.
All bottles must be picked up in person at the distillery in October 2028.
