Scottish independent bottler Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky has released a 54-year-old Longmorn single malt as part of its Rarest Single Cask portfolio. The whisky was distilled at the Speyside distillery on 8 August 1972 and has produced just 109 bottles at 49.3% ABV.
Each bottle offers a distinct expression of the Morayshire distillery, which continues to command a strong following among rare whisky enthusiasts.
Longmorn Distillery was founded in 1894 by John Duff in Elgin, and has secured a place among Speyside’s most respected producers. The distillery is prized for its fruity and complex character, and its spirit is frequently described as a “distiller’s dram”.

READ THE STORYLongmorn has long been valued by master blenders as a component in blended Scotch, where it lends richness, complexity and depth of flavor.
According to the bottler, the spirit’s full personality emerges most clearly in single casks given extended time to mature.
With age, the whisky develops layers of ripe orchard fruits, honeyed sweetness, soft vanilla and warming spice. Casks of considerable maturity are increasingly sought after by collectors seeking the distillery’s character in a raw and well-aged form.
The 1972 vintage is presented in a new decanter design that Duncan Taylor introduced earlier this year.
Longmorn 1972 is priced at £4,995 (US$6,742) and is available through The Spirits Embassy.
Duncan Taylor’s official tasting notes describe the whisky as rich and indulgent, with the warmth of moist gingerbread giving way to caramelized citrus fruits and chocolate panettone. Strands of spun sugar introduce an elegant sweetness, while warm cinnamon pastries add comforting spice and a crème brûlée finish.
Based in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Duncan Taylor was founded in Glasgow in 1938 as a cask broker and trading company. The business holds one of the largest privately owned collections of vintage and rare Scotch whisky casks in the world.
Its wider portfolio includes the Black Bull blended range, The Octave, Dimensions and The Rarest. The firm remains family-owned and distributes its expressions across more than 50 countries.
