Scottish drinks innovator Domhayn has launched Chic Hot, a collaboration with French Canadian contemporary artist Virginie Schroeder that pairs two limited cask releases with individually commissioned sculptural works. The project comprises two editions, Summer and Autumn, each containing a single bottle from a six-bottle cask release presented within a hand-built sculpture created by Schroeder.

The collaboration combines Domhayn’s maturation program with an external artistic commission. Schroeder developed both works using seasonal color references and sculptural forms built around the bottle as a central component.

Butterflies appear across both works as a reference to transformation. The motif reflects the evolution that takes place during Domhayn’s maturation process, where casks are submerged in the depths of Loch Ness.

“I first came across Virginie’s work in a gallery near Paris and was struck by the way she used color and movement,” said James Patterson, founder of Domhayn. “After we discussed Domhayn’s approach to maturing spirits, the collaboration developed naturally. The result is two sculptural works created around some of our rarest releases, reflecting the time and process behind the spirit itself.”

Schroeder said the works were developed in response to the spirit rather than as something separate from it. “I treated the bottle as part of the structure, so the sculpture and the liquid are read as a single object,” she added.

Summer contains bottle six of six from cask DLNTN8, the first Domhayn cask matured at a depth of 220 meters in Loch Ness. Autumn contains bottle six of six from cask DLNMFO, bottled at 63.4% ABV. It is the highest strength released by the company to date.

Each sculpture is signed by the artist and supplied with documentation covering the collaboration. The top spiral element is removable to access the bottle.

Domhayn is known for its unconventional underwater maturation approach, submerging casks in Loch Ness. The technique places the brand among a small group of producers experimenting with aquatic aging methods worldwide.

The works are available through an expression of interest process, closing at 11.59pm (GMT) on 24 July 2026.
