Danish Whisky Pioneer Stauning Unveils 20th Anniversary Rebrand
The redesigned Stauning whisky bottle features clean architectural lines and a new brand symbol representing the distillery’s nine founders.

Denmark’s pioneering whisky distillery Stauning has revealed a complete packaging overhaul that merges Scandinavian minimalism with traditional whisky aesthetics, marking two decades since its founding by nine friends on the West Coast of Jutland.

The redesigned bottles, featuring clean architectural lines and a reimagined brand symbol, will debut globally in late summer 2025. The new identity represents a strategic repositioning for the distillery as it targets design-conscious consumers across more than 20 international markets.

Danish Whisky Gets Modern Makeover

The refreshed packaging will first appear on two core expressions: Stauning Danish R.Y.E. and Stauning HØST. The new bottle design incorporates a distinctive tactile presence and features nine lines representing the distillery’s nine founders, centered around a grain motif that reflects their grain-to-glass production philosophy.

How would you describe your whisky knowledge?

“This is a significant moment for Stauning — a distillery that began 20 years ago as a wild idea among friends and has grown into one of the world’s most acclaimed New World whisky producers,” says Alex Munch, Co-Founder of Stauning. “Our new look honors classical whisky cues while reflecting our future — thoughtful, design-led and defiantly Danish.”

Stauning’s West Jutland distillery produces whisky using 100% locally grown Danish rye and barley.

The rebrand comes as Stauning refocuses its international presence following Diageo’s exit from Distil Ventures. The distillery has established itself as Denmark’s leading whisky producer, distributing to key markets including the UK, Germany, the US, and Nordic countries.

Nordic Whisky Targets Global Expansion

The packaging refresh aims to differentiate Stauning in an increasingly competitive whisky market dominated by traditional Scotch and Bourbon producers. The distillery uses 100% locally grown rye and barley, harvested near its West Jutland facility, and employs traditional floor-malting techniques alongside small copper pot stills.

Scott Milne, Marketing Director at Stauning Whisky, emphasizes the strategic importance of the rebrand: “We aimed to create a brand world that captures the essence of Stauning and appeals to a wide audience: considered, characterful, and unmistakably Danish.”

Founded in 2005, Stauning has positioned itself within the growing New World Whisky category, which includes producers from non-traditional whisky regions. The distillery’s approach combines Danish design principles with whisky-making traditions, creating what it describes as a “defiantly Danish” product.

The new packaging will continue rolling out across the full Stauning range through late 2026. The distillery has not announced pricing for the repackaged products, though current expressions typically retail between $50-$100 (£40-£80) in international markets.
