Copper & Cask Releases 10 Year Old Bourbon "X"

Copper & Cask has unveiled “X,” a 10-year age-stated bourbon that marks the independent blender and bottler’s first permanent release. The small batch, barrel-proof expression launches this month at select US retailers and online, carrying a suggested retail price of $69.99 (£52).

The Boston-based company described the launch as a milestone, with the bourbon positioned to be available year-round through ongoing small batch drops.

The inaugural batch is crafted from hand-selected barrels of 10- to 12-year-old bourbon distilled at MGP Indiana. The liquid was aged in various locations, including Kentucky, Indiana and the brand’s headquarters in Rhode Island.

Copper & Cask built the blend from 45 barrels, combining low-rye (21%) and high-rye (36%) bourbon. The brand said the composition “showcases the complexity of extended aging while allowing each individual barrel to contribute to the layered expression.”

“X” was made under the direction of barrel master Stephen Corrigan, who has led the company’s barrel program since 2022. Corrigan brings nearly two decades of experience across whiskey distillation, aging and blending.

“Launching ‘X’ is an exciting new chapter for Copper & Cask,” said Corrigan. “We wanted our first ongoing release to make a statement. We did this by going deep into our inventory to find mature, distinctive barrels that together create a bourbon with real depth, complexity and character that truly shines at barrel proof.”

According to the official notes from the brand, the nose offers aromas of milk chocolate and salted caramel. The palate brings flavors of butterscotch, chocolate and almonds, followed by notes of chocolate cake and cherry cola.

The brand said the finish is long and layered, with hints of toffee, mocha and candied orange peel.

Copper & Cask describes itself as an award-winning, independent blender and bottler known for thoughtfully sourced and carefully crafted whiskeys. MGP Indiana, the source distillery behind the liquid, is one of the largest suppliers of sourced whiskey in the US. Its distillate forms the backbone of numerous independent American whiskey brands.
