Clonakilty Distillery has doubled its US sales during the first half of 2026 to become one of the fastest-growing Irish whiskey brands in the latest 52-week Nielsen scan.
The Irish distillery’s performance so far in 2026 has defied a wider 5% decline in Irish whiskey export value for the same reason. The independent County Cork producer credited its Galley Head expression as the primary driver behind the growth.

Figures from Marussia Beverages show the distillery recorded 36.2% year-over-year depletion growth and 39.8% growth in Nielsen sales.
Its Galley Head Whiskey, a blend of single pot still and grain whiskey, led the charge. The expression reported a 113% year-on-year increase in depletions and a 33.2% rise in shipments.
Galley Head is now established across key US markets, with strong sales from Massachusetts to Florida and Oregon.
“These results demonstrate that Clonakilty is building sustainable momentum through strong consumer demand and strategic execution,” said Michael Scully, founder of Clonakilty Distillery.

Scully added: “It is incredibly rewarding to see an independent Irish brand resonate so strongly with US consumers, especially in a challenging wider market.”
The distillery is building a national US presence through partnerships with independent retailers and on-premise programming aimed at driving trial and repeat purchases.
The US remains the largest market for the wider Irish drinks trade. However, the market has become more challenging in recent years.

The Irish Whiskey Association commended the distillery’s performance. It described Clonakilty as proof that an independent Irish producer can compete globally while remaining true to its County Cork origins.
Located on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, Clonakilty Distillery is fully Irish-owned. It grows its own barley and oversees every step of the production process.
