Cathead Distillery Honors Kenny Brown in Tintype Series

Cathead Distillery has released Tintype #3 ‘Kenny Brown,’ the third expression in its blues-inspired Tintype Series of limited-edition Old Soul Bourbons. The Mississippi distillery previously launched 2025 editions of Tintype #1 (Captain Luke) and Tintype #2 (Hermon Hitson), with each release comprising fewer than 30 barrels.

The new Tintype #3 honors Hill Country blues musician Kenny Brown and features a distinctive mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley.

Aged 11 years and bottled at cask strength (103.5 proof), the uncut and unfiltered bourbon delivers what the brand describes as “banana-nut-bread richness, buttery baked bread, toasted pecans, and warm baking spices.”

READ THE STORY

“When we launched the Tintype Series in 2021, the goal was to bottle a piece of the South’s musical history and honor Mississippi’s blues roots,” said Richard Patrick, co-founder of Cathead Distillery.

“Each year’s release lets us celebrate these artists and their stories, along with the organizations we support, from Music Maker to Hill Country Picnic.”

The 2025 edition of Tintype #1 Captain Luke Mayer is aged more than seven years and bottled at 121.8 proof. This expression recently won Double Platinum and Best Bourbon at the 2025 ASCOT Awards.

Official tasting notes from the brand include “toasted marshmallow, charred oak, caramel popcorn sweetness, and a smoky, caramelized finish.”

Tintype #2 Hermon Hitson returns for its third annual edition, aged more than nine years at 110.1 proof. The high-rye bourbon celebrates the living blues performer known for his contributions to Southern soul and R&B.

The distillery describes the expression as delivering “Fig Newtons, caramelized brown sugar, creamy vanilla, and a softly grainy, lingering finish.”

All three expressions share Mississippi’s first legal distillery’s commitment to extended barrel aging in the state’s hot and humid climate.

The 2025 Tintype Series launches this month with nationwide online shipping through Cellar.com and Seelbach’s. Retail distribution includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
