Islay distillery Bunnahabhain has unveiled the 2025 edition of its 21 Year Old Cask Strength single malt Scotch whisky. The limited-edition expression, bottled at 53.1% ABV, will be available globally from October 15 for a recommended price of US$350 (£275).
This release is the second in the brand’s popular 21 Year Old Cask Strength series.
The whisky was matured in ex-Oloroso Sherry casks. It then underwent a 21-month finishing period in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks.

The new bottling is part of an annual program that offers whisky enthusiasts a taste of the brand’s spirit straight from the cask.
Twenty-one casks were selected for this year’s release.
The 2025 edition has a slightly lower ABV than the 2024 bottling, which the brand claims results in a subtler character.

READ THE STORY“Bunnahabhain’s cask strength series is a real highlight for me,” said Master Blender Julieann Fernandez. “Not all whiskies work at cask strength, and not all whiskies stand up to long maturation in sherry casks. However, Bunnahabhain is a robust & complex spirit… so it stands up to both these challenges.”
She noted the change in strength had a significant impact on the final liquid.
“There is a slight drop in ABV this year and you would be forgiven for thinking it wouldn’t change the spirit too much,” Fernandez added. “Cask strength doesn’t always have to be about power. Sometimes, it’s about poise.”
The whisky is non-chill filtered and has no added color.
According to the official notes from the brand, the whisky has an aroma of “rich dried fruits, treacle toffee and brown sugar.” The palate delivers notes of “sweet PX-soaked raisins, cocoa and chocolate cherries,” with a “long and warming” finish.
