Bowmore has brought back its cult The Devil’s Casks series more than a decade after the original limited editions, releasing a new 10-year-old and a never-before-seen 22-year-old. The two expressions will be available exclusively through The Whisky Shop, with the 10-year-old launching on 16 October 2026, in time for Halloween.
The series comprises two limited-edition single malts: The Devil’s Casks 10-Year-Old, a 2026 interpretation paying homage to the original three small-batch spirits, and The Devil’s Casks 22-Year-Old, crafted using two remaining casks held back from the original releases and matured for a further decade.
First released between 2013 and 2015, The Devil’s Casks trilogy became known for revealing a darker, richer side of Bowmore through the influence of sherry casks, combining dark fruit, treacle, chocolate, spice, and the distillery’s signature smoke.

The name draws on a local legend. The devil is said to have entered The Round Church in Bowmore village, found no corners in which to hide, and escaped inside a whisky cask bound for the mainland.
The expression carries added weight given Bowmore’s heritage. The first distillery on Islay to receive a licence, Bowmore was officially founded in 1779, though its founder had likely been distilling since shortly after his arrival on the island in 1766.
Dr Calum Fraser, master blender, Scotch and Irish at Suntory Global Spirits, said: “The Devil’s Casks became one of Bowmore’s most memorable modern limited editions, combining Bowmore folklore with an intensely rich, flavour-led expression of the distillery’s character.”

The Devil’s Casks 10-Year-Old is matured in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks and finished in first-fill Pedro Ximénez casks. Bottled at 56.6% ABV, it carries an RSP of $94 (£70). According to the official notes from the brand, it offers layers of dark fruit and fruitcake, wrapped in cocoa and maple syrup.
Matured for 22 years in first-fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks before a final finish in refill Oloroso, the cask-strength 22-Year-Old sits at 59.6% ABV and carries an RSP of $509 (£380). The brand’s official notes cite charred fruit and treacle giving way to salty oak and liquorice.
Whisky fans can register their interest in the 10-year-old at WhiskyShop.com from today. The 22-year-old will be available via a ballot from 31 October for those who purchase the 10-year-old.
John Beard, director of The Whisky Shop, said: “Reviving The Devil’s Casks with Bowmore is a thrill and genuine privilege. This is a global exclusive, and we couldn’t be prouder to bring it to our customers – old friends and new – both online and in-person across our 22 UK stores.”
The release marks the start of a new chapter delving into Bowmore’s archives, with the distillery set to reintroduce celebrated past expressions in the coming years.
Both bottlings will also be available at the Bowmore Distillery from 1 December 2026.
